Group Spiritual Direction
Group spiritual direction provides a unique setting where members of a group come together for the purpose of giving prayerful attention to the presence and activity of God in their own life as well as in the lives of others. As each member is given the opportunity to share, the group listens deeply and prayerfully to discern how God may be at work and present in that individual’s life. In group spiritual direction, people learn to listen to God’s Spirit at work in them for others in the group. We trust not in ourselves, but in the very presence of God with us to lead and direct our time together. We make ourselves available to God on behalf of another. Group spiritual direction is not your typical small group. The time together has a specific structure that is followed as we offer and hold a space for one another to be listened to deeply.
There are three essential to the life of the group and it is important for those participating to make a commitment to:
-
An honest and growing relationship with the Lord
-
Wholehearted engagement in the group process through prayerful listening and responding
-
Opening their spiritual journeys to the prayerful consideration of others
Spiritual direction groups offer a safe and loving place where we can support each other’s desire for God and our desire to grow in our relationship with Him.
